Student Conduct Policy

At Dutch Oven Outfitters, safety and professionalism are at the heart of everything we do.

Whether you’re learning the ropes of wilderness and lodge cooking or preparing for a career in a hunting camp cook school, your conduct matters. We hold all students to the highest standards to ensure a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment in the backcountry.

Respect & Responsibility in the Backcountry

Cooking in a remote wilderness setting comes with challenges—working with fire, handling heavy cast iron, and being surrounded by unpredictable nature. Because of this, all students are required to act responsibly, respectfully, and maturely at all times.

Grounds for Dismissal

Any student whose behavior jeopardizes the safety of others—including fellow students, instructors, or livestock—may be immediately dismissed at the discretion of the head instructor. We reserve the right to determine whether a student’s actions are detrimental to the program.

Unacceptable Conduct Includes,

But Is Not Limited To:

  • Cheating, and dishonesty  – Integrity is key in any profession, and our hunting camp cook school expects honesty at all times.

  • Theft, property damage, or misuse of school equipment – We provide top-quality cast iron and tools; respect for gear and property is essential.

  • Use of alcohol or drugs – Operating around open flames, sharp tools, and livestock requires full mental clarity. Absolutely no intoxicating substances are allowed.

  • Mistreatment of animals – We work alongside livestock in our training. Any abuse or neglect is grounds for immediate removal.

  • Fighting, threats, or disruptive behavior – We maintain a teamwork-based learning environment. Any behavior that disrupts the class will not be tolerated.

  • Unauthorized use or entry into property facilities – Respect all sheds, buildings, trailers, Cabins, and The Chicory House BnB.

  • Excessive absenteeism or tardiness – Training is hands-on and requires full participation. Repeated tardiness may lead to dismissal.

  • Harassment, discrimination, or endangerment of others – Every student deserves a safe, supportive learning space. Any inappropriate conduct will result in immediate action.

Professionalism in the Wilderness & Lodge Cooking Industry

Our goal is to train skilled backcountry camp cooks who can work in remote lodges, hunting camps, and wilderness outfitters. Conduct during training reflects how you will behave on the job. Outfitters trust us to train future employees, and we take that responsibility seriously.

Final Notes on Student Conduct

  • Students dismissed from the course will not be allowed to re-enter.

  • The school reserves the right to make final judgments on all disciplinary matters.

  • Respect for the land, gear, instructors, and fellow students is expected at all times.
